The Anti-Doping Hearing Panel of the International Biathlon Union (IBU) announced the following decision on 20th of April 2015: The athlete Serguei Sednev is ineligible to compete for a period of two years, commencing from December 15, 2014. All competition results of Mr. Serguei Sednev obtained from the date of the sample was collected (January 22, 2013) are disqualified with all of the resulting consequences. The test was conducted on January 22, 2013 in Antholz (ITA) as an Out-of- Competition test. Retested Ukrainian biathlete Sergei Sednev, a bronze medalist at the 2011 world championships, had a stored doping sample retested re-analyzed by the WADA accreditated laboratory in Cologne on December 2, 2014. The analysis showed presence of EPO. The sample was first analysed between January 28 and 31 in 2013 was reported negative, even though the sample was considered suspicious. EPO most common EPO is the most commonly used prohibited substance in doping cases in biathlon. In the 22 cases we have registered related to biathlon, nine involves EPO. 22 biathletes has so far been suspended for doping. 11 of the athletes are Russian, and seven of these tested positive for EPO. 110 Ukraine athletes Sednev is so far the second biathlete from Ukraine we have registered in the database. In 2011 Oksana Khvostenko was suspended for one year after testing positive for ephedrine. In total 110 Ukraine athletes has been suspended for doping. Most of these, 42, are Track and Field athletes. 20 of the athletes has tested positive for the steroid Stanozolol.
