About The Anti-Doping Database

The Anti-Doping Database (ADDB) is an online tool for professionals researching doping in sport.

The database contains information about athletes who has been sanctioned for an anti-doping rule violation - or a ban or a suspension as someone may call it.

Our goal: To be the most complete database of banned athletes

The Anti-Doping Database has always contained information of sanctioned athletes from all sports and all countries. And we strive to be the most complete database of athletes (or coaches) who has been banned for an anti-doping rule violation.

We do how ever know that we will never be complete. The reason for this is that we are only using public online sources. If some organisation decides not to publish information publicly available, we are not able to register them. Sometime we do get information from organisations who keep such information behind closed doors, but that is not often.

There are many reasons for a sports organisation not to publicly disclose information about a banned athlete. One is that they are prohibited to do so by the national privacy laws.

Sources

Our sources are National Anti-Doping Organizations (NADO), International Sports Federations (ISF), National Sports Federations (NSF) and also News websites.

We manually follow the websites of the above mentioned sports organisation types on a regular basis.

When we find information in the news, we try to find the information online. If we are unable to get the information on either the sport federation website or the NADO in the country where the athlete came from, we do reach out to these organisations and ask for the information.

Our criteria

Our criteria has been that we add cases where we know which prohibited substance the athlete has tested positive for. Because of this we have not been able to add cases from quite a few sports and countries.

We are how ever in contact with IFs, NADOs and national federations or national sports bodies to receive this information.
