Mesterolone is rare in cricket - until now
August 28, 2026We've registered our first UAE cricket case involving mesterolone: Asif Khan, banned 15 months. It's also the first mesterolone case we've registered in cricket at all.
Cricket has 60 registered doping cases in our database. Cannabis leads with five cases; steroids account for just 22, split across Clenbuterol, Nandrolone, Norandrosterone and Stanozolol - three cases each. Pakistan (11) and India (8) top the country list; the UK, Netherlands and New Zealand share third place with six each.
Mesterolone itself is far more common elsewhere: bodybuilding (35 cases), track and field (14) and weightlifting (11) dwarf cricket's single case. South Africa (13), Czech Republic (11) and Italy (7) are the leading countries for the substance.
The UAE's own doping record centers elsewhere: 65 athletes banned in total, 29 of them in equestrian - far ahead of track and field (5) and a four-way tie for third (powerlifting, weightlifting, jiu-jitsu, soccer). Stanozolol is UAE's most common violation (14 cases), ahead of testosterone and boldenone.
