Ten year suspension for Tunisian Weightlifter


The Tunisian weightlifter Bogdan Drandalov has been suspended for ten years by the International Weightlifting Federation.

 

The weightlifter has been found guilty of violating two rules in the World Anti-Doping Code, namely administering prohibited substances and to possess prohibited substances. We have 89 cases where an athlete has been suspended for having prohibited substances in his or her possession. In weightlifting there has been four such cases, including Drandalov. Such violations ends in quite lengthy suspensions, and it is not uncommon to suspend an athlete for longer than two years. Of the 89 cases, 28 has been suspended for life. 41 athletes has been suspended for administering prohibited substances. Most of these cases involves cyclists or persons involved with cyclists. In 22 of the cases the person was given a lifetime suspension.
