Paulini suspended for cocaine

The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announces that it has notified Italian rider Luca Paolini of an Adverse Analytical Finding of Cocaine (Benzoylecgonine metabolite) in a sample collected in the scope of an in-competition control on 7 July 2015 during the Tour de France.

The rider has the right to request and attend the analysis of the B sample. In accordance with UCI Anti-doping Rules, the rider has been provisionally suspended until the adjudication of the affair. Out of 140 athletes, seven cyclists has tested positive for cocaine. Soccer is the sport who has the most cases with 24 cases. 64 athletes has been suspended for two years. Three cyclists has tested positive for Benzoylecgonine out of a total of 38. Rugby is the sport with the most cases (9), while soccer has six. 25 athletes has received a two year suspension. 10 athletes has been suspended for less than two years. Only athletes who has received a sanction is added to the anti-doping database.
