IBU press release: Three positive B sample analsis


On February 12th 2009 at 7 pm CET, the IBU was informed by the WADA accredited laboratory of Lausanne about the results of the B sample analysis.

 

The IBU states today that prohibited substances were found in samples of three Russian athletes. The B sample analysis results confirmed all A sample analysis. Dmitri Yaroshenko was tested during the WC 1 in Östersund in December 2008. Two samples proofed positive and were confirmed by the B sample analysis. Ekaterina Iourieva was also tested during the WC 1 in Östersund in December 2008. Two samples proved positive and were confirmed by the B sample analysis. Albina Akhatova was tested during the WC 1 in Östersund in December 2008. One sample proved positive and was confirmed by the B sample analysis. The disciplinary process before the IBU Doping Hearing Panel, will be initiated as soon as the IBU receives the complete Documentation Package by the laboratory of Lausanne. These documents have a volume of 200 pages each for each test. The IBU expects to receive those not before the end of the WCHs, approximately in two weeks from now. The IBU Doping Hearing Panel will then conduct a hearing with each athlete within 7 days after notification to make a decision about the disciplinary consequences for all persons involved in the Anti - Doping Rule violation, according to the IBU Anti - Doping Rules. The IBU Doping Hearing Panel is a disciplinary body appointed by the IBU Executive Board, following the decision of the IBU Congress 2008 in Prague, serving for four years. The chairman is a lawyer. The Chair of the IBU Doping Hearing Panel shall appoint three members from the panel (which may include the Chair) to hear each case. The chairman and all members are independent from IBU. At least one appointed member shall be a lawyer. They shall have had no prior involvement with the case and shall not have the same nationality as the Athlete or other Person alleged to have violated these Anti-Doping Rules. As soon as a decision will be rendered by the Doping Hearing Panel, IBU will inform the public about the outcome.
